Usually I like bracket day. I get my bracket, I choose which names are prettier, compare mascots, etc. (I don't know much, but I always have fun!) And then I make Notre Dame win the whole thing.
Usually, I can delude myself into thinknig that we have some sort of chance.
I'm going to pretend that ND was a #1 seed, and we got knocked out in the first round, and I NO ONE is going to tell me otherwise!!

As for the way you pick teams, don't let anyone tell you that ANY theory is stupid. And I'll tell you why. Because with all my knowledge and following of the game, I've only ever won the pool once, and I invariably end up cursing myself over picks, and staring dumbfounded when the unpredictable, incomprehensible, yet totally possible does happen. (Those of you who follow the tournament like I do know that as I typed that last sentence I cringed as I mentally recalled the image of Kenyon Martin's leg snapping like a pretzel stick the year that virtually everyone had him carrying Cincinnatti on his back and going all the way.) The truth is, there is no bad way to pick your teams (but let's remember that #1 and #2 seeds don't get beaten in the first round ... EVER... No matter how nice their colors, mascot, or cool name.) After witnessing my friends and their siblings do well with hare-brained theories, I think there is something to picking a team with better colors, a cooler sounding name, or a great mascot... Which is why I'm testing the theory this year... I have my reality bracket, and my color bracket... I'm just curious as to which one will fare better when the chips fall.
I must say that while I appreciate your support of your alma mater, Notre Dame would be better off if they stuck to football. Notre Dame has NEVER won the national title, and they have only appeared in the final four once in the history of the tournament. So maybe there is one way not to pick your winners...
